
Prof.
Wissel is head of the Neurorehabilitation Hospital
(194 in-patients) in Beelitz-Heilstätten, Brandenburg
near Berlin in Germany. Since 2000 he is Professor of Neurology and member of the faculty of the Department
of Neurology at the Medical School of Innsbruck in Austria and University of
Potsdam, Germany.
Prof. Dr J.
Wissel has been very active in clinical research to investigate the therapeutic
utility of Botulinumtoxin in dystonia,
cerebral palsy and spasticity and has published
numerous scientific papers and book chapters on this subject since the early
90’s. He is member of an interdisciplinary European panel publishing the European consensus table on the use of Botulinumtoxin in adult spasticity
in J Rehabil Med in 2009. His latest
publication in J Neuro 2010 (e-pub ahead) reported a
high incidence of spasticity early following stroke
(24% two weeks after first ever stroke).
Prof. Dr. J. Wissel has trained in the Department of Neurology at the Humboldt University Charité of Berlin (1989-1995) in Germany, and the Department of Neurology at the University of Innsbruck (1995-2001) in Austria. 1992 he served as a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Restorative Neurology and Human Neurobiology at The Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He is board certified Neurologist since 1995 with additional specialisation in Clinical Neurophysiology, Physical Therapy, Psychotherapy and Rehabilitation.
